If you are new to the Prepaid, learning who to buy from and how to buy can be overwhelming. We’d like to help you make an informed and educated decision when it comes to selecting a prepaid merchant to do business with. Below you will find the a list of questions that you should have the answer for prior to making your first prepaid calling card purchase:

  • Know the type of phone call you will be making (domestic or international).
  • Time your average phone call length. Is it relatively short or rather long?
  • Rates and surcharges may increase significantly if using a calling card to make calls by pay-phone or cellular phone. If you plan to use a cell phone to make your calls there are many cell phone based cards available to you.
  • Know the billing increment (rounding) for any calling card you want to purchase. Knowing this variable alone can be the difference between a good calling rate and a bad one. For example, three minute rounding means minutes are deducted from your card in blocks of three minutes. If you make a one minute phone call you will still be billed for three minutes.
  • Avoid maintenance fees and other taxes by using all of the minutes on your calling card in one phone call.
  • In some calling cards, calls originating from another country will have higher rates due to international surcharges. In that case, look into cards specifically for international use. If you are traveling outside the US, make sure you know whether your card will work in each country you visit.
  • Some US domestic calling cards do not allow you to call back into the US when you are in other countries.
  • Many domestic calling cards to don work from Hawaii or Alaska.
  • Make sure you know a card’s expiration date to avoid losing any unused minutes.
  • A website selling calling cards should include a rate finder or matcher that prominently displays cards meeting your search criteria and all information associated with the calling card(s) you wish to learn more about. Be leery of companies that fail to mention fees, restrictions or simply offer rates you know are too good to be true.
